Jump to RecipeWho doesn’t love an ice cold cocktail in a frosty mug this time of the year as the weather is getting warmer and we’re returning to patio gathering and back porch sitting. This Colorado Bourbon Mule fits the bill. This take on the classic moscow mule features two of my favorite things… Bourbon and my home state of Colorado.
Here in Colorado we have ALOT of passionate artisan producers who are crafting really high quality stuff. This bourbon mule features two of those producers that I am proud to call friends and collegues. 10th Mountain Whiskey & Spirits Co makes some killer Bourbon right here in the Vail Valley. The bourbon super smooth but has just the perfect amount of bite to really shine in this version of the moscow mule.
Pair that bourbon with Rocky Mountain Soda Company’s spicy Golden Ginger Beer , a little lime and fresh mint, you’ve got a match made in porch sitting heaven!
,
The trick here is to muddle the mint with the bourbon before adding the ice, ginger beer and lime juice. If you can’t get the Colorado ingredients where you are, use something cool from where you live. There are great artisans making amazing small batch spirits and sodas all over the place now. Just make sure to opt for a relatively spicy ginger beer and you cant go wrong.
Feel free to make a pitcher of these bourbon mules, they're a real crowd pleaser!
With a cocktail muddler or wooden spoon, muddle or smashe the mint with the bourbon in the bottom of your glass.
Top with ice cubes and add the ginger beer and lime juice. Garnish with lime wedges and some fresh mint.
